This role is the Asia Pacific Office of General Counsel legal leader for Operate* services. You will be both a leader and lawyer, influencing at all levels of the organization and be the legal point person for the Deloitte service offering of ‘Operate’. You will represent Asia Pacific (AP) in agreed AP and global forums and work with many senior stakeholders. The AP OGC team is comprised of over 120 legal professionals located across the region. AP OGC provides in house legal services to our regional business by partnering with the business to bring the best people and advice to our most interesting and complex matters.
As a senior contracts lawyer with considerable recent experience and specialized knowledge of Operate Services*, you will advise on the best to approach on contracting and what terms to include for Operate Deals wherever those deals are located.
You will lead Operate contracting for the Asia Pacific Member Firm and will report to the AP OGC Contracting Leader and the AP General Counsel. You will also work on global deals for the global network, and as part of the global ‘Operate’ community.
Location: Singapore, Hong Kong or New Zealand (Auckland)

Work you'll do
You will be responsible for managing a team of lawyers that are focused on providing quality legal contracting advice for the most complex of Operate contracts. The Leader is responsible for both the strategic leadership and management of Operate Contracting Capability, as well as the lawyers that sit within this capability within the Asia Pacific OGC.
- Lead and manage a united and collaborative cross border team of experienced Contracting (Operate) lawyers in Asia Pacific
- Developing AP OGC Operate Capability and team, including providing feedback on their performance, career development, and accountability
- Drafting and interpreting contracts
- Being part of the negotiating team and helping negotiate Operate Services contracts and giving advice on what’s standard, including giving advice on mitigating legal risk in agreed positions
- Playing significant role in helping shape the negotiating approach and strategy
- Gathering information to guide improvements in contract drafting and supports the escalation processes
- Helping partners, principals, and managing directors understand reasons behind our standard positions and potential consequences of changing them for Operate Deals
- Making relevant level of leadership aware of the trade-offs and consequences of any risk we are undertaking
- Advising business leadership teams during escalation as to the meaning of problem clauses, implications on service delivery or risks assumed and potential mitigation plans
- Collaborating with the Negotiator and Risk teams in advising the GLCSP and account teams
- Achieving consistency in the region in how Deloitte contracts for its most complex contracts, and implementing best practices
- Building effective relationships with Business Risk leaders in all geographies and other key stakeholders, and will work collaboratively with the Contracting Leader to develop and deliver the agreed priorities

The role requires a senior lawyer, at the Senior Director/Principal level, with a deep subject matter expertise in complex Operate contracting.
- This person should be an experienced leader and should be someone who has worked with diverse, large and complex organizations as they outsource, insource and transform and modernize their operations, systems and processes in a competitive business environment, including where such transformation is achieved through technology and digital solutions.
- Extensive (10 years+) experience drafting and negotiating Operate deals, including contracts that govern the management and support of information technology operations and platforms that incorporate commercial and bespoke software deployed in a hosted environment.
- Expert in addressing legal challenges arising from Operate Deals including risk, multi-year terms, liability matters, products/assets, Confidentiality, Privacy, Data Security/Supplier Information Security Requirements, Client Policy Requirements, global structure etc..
